Got quite annoyed about that, about the time where I was getting closer to "beating" the game, then all of a sudden DLC was announced. But so far, I've been playing about a year, I've failed a couple of times, learned, found out I could kinda remove/disable challenges, ran with that for a long while, realizing that has huge negative drawbacks (disabling food requirement, means no dupe eats at all, which makes it quite impossible to maintain a positive morale, when you can't boost morale using food. In short, I think it's better to dig straight up and straight down before spending too much time digging out biomes, except for maybe the slime biomes because algae is very useful early game as well as slime for mushrooms and thimble reed seeds. I still have at least half of the asteroid to carve out, but I have 6 electrolyzers running constantly and several food options. Just a quick gameplay opinion, I finally made it to the "home sweet home" achievement, which is essentially Mid-game, by focusing all of my efforts on getting Atmo suits, utilizing space to dump excess gas, and accessing an oil biome for lead/fossil/oil and building a petroleum boiler. This game rewards patience and good planning exponentially and it punishes quick and temporary solutions even more severely. Heat getting out of hand, liquid/gas getting backed up, critters starving, running out of clay, not taking care of natural gas from oil wells, the list of my simple mistakes that have nearly broken my game goes on and on. My issue is with building things to be future proof. I'm at nearly 500 hours and I still haven't quite made it to Petroleum rockets, but I am close. You simply run out of things to do, and that could take 1000+ hours.
